Geography

The kingdom of Thydencia is divided by the MMM mountains, which split the duchy of Yentoon from the rest of the kingdom. The north of the kingdom includes part of the JJJ Jungle. South of that are cultivated fields for agriculture. The land to the west of the mountains is covered in rolling hills, so magics to aid transport are common.

History

Peoples

The racial mix of Thydencia is varied. Some of the jungle natives are common in the north, an while dwarves work in the hills to the southeast.

Thydencia is one of the few kingdoms where slavery is legal.

Regions

Crescent City, governed by Duke Palusid

A sprawling metropolis of a city, Crescent City is in fact an independent duchy. It is the smallest duchy of the kingdom, and most of the duchy lands is covered by the city itself. Crescent City is larger than it probably needs to be - abandoned buildings are common, but they are maintained by the magic of the Cainam crystal. The city is a veritable maze in parts, and many escaped slaves hide within the walls of Crescent City.

It is thought that the ducal family is a little degenerate. They seem to have a phobia or aversion to growing plants of any sort, and the city does not have any parks or open areas.

The king of Thydencia and his retinue usually stay within Crescent City. One of the largest royal palaces is on the north side of the city, and the sprawling estate houses hundreds of royal slaves even when the king is not present.

Duchy of Dastrath, governed by Duke Varkott

Located at a strategic point on the north side of Reskemi Bay, Dastrath is a well-fortified duchy. It is the southernmost duchy of the kingdom, and defends the kingdom from raids from orcs and Omkedrin to the south. Numerous fortresses and walled keeps secure the border. Dastrath is a strict military state, and martial law is the law of the land.

Dastrath is populated largely by goblinoids. The ruling family is hobgoblins. Years ago, when orcish raiders swept thru Thydencia, the ruling queen sought a military leader who would stand firm against the orcish mob. The hobgoblin cleric NNN, who had inspired his tribe to stand against the orcs elsewhere, was the right personality, and he became the first duke of Dastrath.

Duchy of Narbanah, governed by Duchess Rajalla

Narbanah is at the northern border where the JJJ jungle separates Thydencia from Ardevora. Narbanah is the largest duchy of the kingdom, and has both the tropical jungle as well as lush fields for cultivated crops. A few gangs of bullywugs from Duibalg plague the western reaches, where the forests give way to swamps.

Narbanah also has a large freshwater lake within it. Under the water is a city of XXX, who are considered part of the duchy. The XXX  have domesticated giant rays, and use them for transportation.

Duchy of Duibalg, governed by

The swampy duchy of Duibalg is located around the mouth of the RRR river, to the west of Narganah. It is a small duchy,

Bullywugs are common inhabitants, as well as a few tribes of goblins. The chief of the goblins is also the ruler of the duchy. XXXX is a Blue of considerable power, and he ensures that his people are well-represented in kingdom politics.

Duchy of Thontoth, governed by Duke Utaumpa

Thontoth is a little of an oddity. It occupies the southern half of the icy Thontoth Plateau bordered by the alpine duchy of DDD in Ardevora. The plateau is enclosed and at extremely high elevations. But the land is extremely chilly, despite the equatorial latitude. The land is actually colder than DDD, and there are rumors of a permanent portal to the paramental plane of Ice.

The winds and rivers that flow from Thontoth actually cool the rest of the duchy, as well as the neighboring lands. Since the duchy straddles the equator, the climate of the rest of the kingdom would otherwise be quite warm. The prevailing winds cool the western side of the kingdom.

The people of Thontoth have domesticated a few native beasts for use as mounts in this frigid land. The people of Thontoth maintain a strong militia, as yetis plague this duchy as much as DDD. Ice sleds are also a somewhat popular mode of transport.

Duchy of Yentoon, governed by Duke Waltuk

Yentoon is on the eastern side of the high mountain range which splits Thydencia. A number of passes and tunnels have been created to reach the remote duchy, But the arid duchy has little to attract people. The desert is fierce and hot, and those who get lost are never found again.

There are several large cities within Yentoon. Each is built around a natural spring, which provides the city's water. The springs are augmented by elemental magics, ensuring they will never go dry. The springs are carefully guarded.

Each city serves as a trading point. In addition to normal trade goods, most of the cities of Yentoon sell slaves.

Yentoon borders the kingdom of Redowas, but the arid climate prevent the Vei raiders from doing much damage.

Duchy of Siraban, governed by the twins Duke Darlon and Duchess Caliss

Siraban borders, and includes part of, the high mountains which split the kingdom. Siraban mages have crafted flying skiffs to allow travelers and merchants to fly to the duchy of Thontoth and over to Yentoon. They have also helped to fortify tunnels, and the people are very interested in facilitating trade and travel within the kingdom. They are also called upon to interact with Timaria when that kingdom is floating above Thydencia.

Duchy of Enwod'kor, governed by Duke

A thickly forested region to the south, bordering Narganah. The forest is home to XXX and XXX, who control the duchy. The XXX fiercely drive out any foreigners, using snares, deadfalls, and other vicious traps.
