Geography

The Omkedrin lands are poorly defined, but are in the southwestern area of Ahvosia. The lands border on the south of Sogel, and also partially surround Zordon. These lands range from fertile rainforest near the coast to savannas near the interior. The territory borders the continent of Drevollus to the south.

History

The Omkedrin claim all of Ahvosia was once theirs. The Omkedrin peoples are likely to be descended from the ancient Yarbalis empire. They also have mixed in refugees from the continent of Drevollus, and inherited many superstitions from these peoples. However, the Omkedrin avoid Drevollus itself.

Omkedrin are primarily human tribesmen, and live in small nomadic tribes of 20-80 individuals. However, there are a few other races that also dwell in the Omkedrin lands.

Regions

The Omkedrin who live along the coast dwell in semi-permanent fishing villages. They use canoes or small rafts to travel up and down the coast. Spear-fishing is common, as is harvesting beds of shellfish and kelp from the sea. Competition for premium fishing spots is intense, and two Omkedrin tribes wishing to harvest the same site usually resolve their dispute through athletic competitions. The loser generally settles for the other side of the bay, and then the two tribes would trade.

The coastal Omkedrin are mixed in their attitude towards strangers and non-human inhabitants. Maenads compete with the Omkedrin for fishing sites in the northwestern coastal areas, and the Omkedrin frequently conduct raids on maenad settlements. Lizardfolk and Poison Dusk Lizardfolk also dwell near the coast in several areas, but fortunately in small numbers. Rilkans are occasionally found in settlements along the eastern coast, and they usually integrate well with the Omkedrin.

A number of Omkedrin live in the rainforest interior. They construct lightweight huts in clearings, and migrate frequently. Many predators stalk the jungles, so they frequently abandon their huts rather than fight against a strong predator. Some of the tribal villages are constructed in trees rather than on the ground, but these are fewer, and no less migratory.

Wild elves also live within the rainforest interior. Many of the wild elf tribes are xenophobic, but a few trade with the Omkedrin.

A few Omkedrin tribes dwell in the savannah areas. These tribesmen frequently come into contact with the Vei horsemen, and the other peoples of the plains. The Vei and Omkedrin share common problems, and therefore avoid conflict with each other. The Blue Yarbal River is recognized as the border between their lands, but Vei visitors are welcome in Omkedrin lands.

Culture

The Omkedrin have a strong belief in spirits. They do not follow totems, but worship various gods which they blend in with their shamanistic beliefs. Some of the more popular deities are Trithereon, Malar and Ehlonna/Mielikki.

Omkedrin avoid large cities, and only meet in semi-permanent settlements of around 100. There are several common locations where outside traders can expect an Omkedrin settlement, but even these are only present about 75% of the time. The Omkedrin travel to follow game. They also harvest grains and foodstuffs, and are aided by their spellcasters. Omkedrin warriors commonly include barbarians and rangers, and promising tribal defenders are quickly taught skills to help defend the tribe.

The Omkedrin dwell among some of the fiercest creatures. Many magical beasts live in the Omkedrin lands, migrating northward from Drevollus. Omkedrin not only have to fight fierce predators, but deal with fierce predators with intelligence and magical power. Thus they are quick to abandon a site when it has been discovered by the predators.
