Lhrimbalor
The duergar stronghold of Lhrimbalor lies deep in the earth. It had withstood
the hardships of living, attacks by the Derro, Kuo-Tua, and other races
for the past nine generations..
History
Last month, the stronghold finally fought off an army of undead led by
a lich-priest. The stronghold recently lost over half of its warriors in
the battles, and the King was slain in combat with the lich.
. The tunnels leading to the undead are triply reinforced with magic
and good stonework. Psionics are also used by the guardsmen.
People
After a vicious battle with Nar Merak's undead armies, Lhrimbalor is vastly
under strength. The population, at 140, is only half of what it was. The
current breakdown of the duergar population, by profession:
-
15% warriors
-
20% process food or raise livestock
-
15% miners
-
10% stonemasons
-
8% metalworking
-
17% hunters/scouts/assassins
-
8% priesthood
-
5% psionicists
-
2% ruling class
In addition to the duergar, there are a number of slaves (mostly controlled
by the psionicists). They include about 40 goblins, eight gnolls, three
ogres, and a magically-bound pech. Since the slaves know about the fight
against the undead (and participated in the battle), they are less likely
to escape, knowing that undeath lurks around the corner.
Rulership
The lair is traditionally ruled by a king. The current king had his predecessor
(and uncle) assassinated because of failures in the conflict with the lich
Nar Merak. The priesthood of Laduguer aided in the assassination
Armed Forces
The duergar have about a half-dozen steeders, ridden by elite warriors.
In addition to the duergar, the gnoll slaves help with guard duty. Of all
the slaves, the gnolls are treated the best.
Economy
The duergar have a small mining facility presently. The mines, like most
of the stronghold, is undermanned. The duergar have iron, tin, zinc, silver,
and even a bit of mithril (which is kept secret from everyone, even most
duergar). Ogre and goblin slaves help in the mines. Forges nearby are used
to make weapons.
Like most underground civilizations, they raise fungi and food animals
= in their case, lizards and cave pigs. There is also a small amount of
fishing from the river, and a small band of duergar have become efficient
underground hunters.
Personalities
Warriors
Priests
The high priest (lvl 10) is responsible for the binding of the pech. He
is also currently working on building a hammer golem.
Psionicists
The Mindmaster (the ranking psionicist, lvl 9), is third in chain of command
on the council
Organizations
Thieves' Guilds
The hunters, scouts and assassins are a loose affiliation of stealthy individuals,
rather than an organized guild. Each group has a leader who are equal in
rank. The head of the assassins and the head of the scouts are both allied
with the current king, while the hunter leader is neutral (although still
respected).
